I'm your host, Corey Muscarra, and in today's episode I'm going to share a poem

with you that will hopefully help us continue to challenge

what this sense of I and self is.

First, let's settle in together with the sound of the bells. So there's So this poem is by Wanna Ramon Jimenez. It's called I Am not I. I am not I. I am this one walking beside me whom I do not see whom I do not see whom at times I manage to visit, and at other times I forget. The one who

remains silent when I talk, the one who forgives sweet, when I hate.

The one who takes a walk when I am indoors.

The one who will remain standing when I die.

So just notice how that lands for you.

So just notice how you receive that. I think a lot of times with

poetry it's best left unexplained and best interpreted through our own lens so I won't try to

interpret this one at least. But I'll share the part that landed most for me.

I really liked the one who remained silent when I talk. There's something about

that line that I connect to. I don't quite know why, but I think having spent so much time in

silence on retreats and in meditation.

That's often the space where I most connect

to something bigger than the small sense of self.

And again, when I say small sense of self,

I'm just referring to that usual sense of ourselves

that we walk around with.
