On December 3rd, 1848, the 10th anniversary of his escape from slavery, Frederick Douglass publishes a letter.

He writes a letter to someone who doesn't want a letter from him, but he's going to write it anyway,

and that is his former purported owner, Thomas Ald of Maryland.

That's hard to argue with. Just around the time that Congress is debating the various compromises.

And Frederick Douglass, the former slave, now a famous activist and writer,

issues a letter, a public letter. And the recipient of the letter is Thomas Ald. Thomas

Ald was the person that kept Frederick Douglass in enslavement until he escaped.

Ald also sold Frederick Douglass out to his brother.

And because the fugitive act is being proposed in the past, this is really resistance,
