At the moment I am crossing, I think this is Richmond Avenue.

I'm in Colonial Williamsburg, day three.

Final day here in Colonial Williamsburg, crossing Richmond Street, Richmond Road. and I'm now on the campus of the

College of William and Mary. And this college is old. 1693 is when this college was founded.

And I'm looking at the W-R-E-N building, that's W-R-E-N, the W-R-E-N building.

This is the oldest college building still standing in the United States.

It took five years to build. They started in 1695, completed construction in 1700. It is a beautiful

building. Looks very Williamsburg-y. I didn't realize this, but this building has been gutted by

fire three times.

So about five years after they finished building the Wren building,

after it was completed, it was gutted by fire. That was the first time.

And then in 1859 as well as 1862, it was gutted by fire.

Each time it was restored, renovated, and they still use it.

The college, of course, is much larger than simply the Wren building, but they still use it for classes.

We also have some faculty offices, so some professors, members of the William and Mary faculty, have their offices in the Wren building,

which I imagine is pretty amazing. At least it strikes me that way. I go teach at the College of

William and Mary and my office is in the Wren building, the oldest college building

still standing in the United States. William and Mary, they have about 10,000 students,

and this campus is beautiful, and it's accessible, because it's right at the end of Duke of

Gloucester Street and colonial Williamsburg and so I've talked quite
