Hello, I'm Susan Hume and this is the Yesterday in Parliament podcast.

On Wednesday, June the 25th, the Prime Minister was at the NATO summit in the Hague,

so his place at question time in the Commons was taken for the second week running by his deputy, Angela Rayner.

No one knew until just hours beforehand

who would get to be Kemi Badenock's stand-in at Prime Minister's questions.

Would it be one of the young Turks of the Shadow Cabinet

who've posted videos of themselves taking on fair dodgers

and tackling illegal workers?

Or would she choose someone, arguably, less swashbuckling?

It is a pleasure to stand opposite the right honourable lady.

It was the shadow chancellor, Sir Mel Stride.

As for Angela Rayner,

despite what many may think we have a great deal in common,

not least that we both viscerally disagree with the

Chancellor's tax policies.

The Chancellor Rachel Reeves laughed, though possibly for the cameras, and beside her

Angela Rayner kept reading through her notes as Mel Stride quickly moved on to the difficult

political spot, the Prime Minister finds himself in,

with a looming labour rebellion over the controversial bill which would restrict who could get

some disability benefits. It is great to see the right Honourable Lady standing in temporarily
