Hello, I'm Sean Curran, and this is yesterday in Parliament from BBC Radio 4.

On Tuesday, the 20th of January, the government won a round of parliamentary ping-pong,

over its deal to hand sovereignty of the Chegos Islands to Mauritius,

just hours after President Trump

criticised the agreement. Just how special is the so-called special relationship between Britain

and America. Just a few hours after President Trump had described the UK's decision to hand

over sovereignty of the Cheagos Islands to Mauritius as an act of great stupidity,

the US speaker, Mike Johnson, appeared in a Commons committee room to reassure MPs and peers.

We have always been able to work through our differences calmly as friends. We will continue to do

that. I want to assure you this morning that that is still the case.

I spoke to President Trump at length yesterday, and I told him that I really felt that my

mission here, even though we planned this back in the fall, we didn't know how the events

would develop over the last a few days, but I told the President that I felt that my mission here today was to encourage our friends

and help to calm the waters, so to speak, and I hope to do so.

Sekeh Starma can expect to be asked about the state of relations with the U.S.

later today at Prime Minister's questions.

But yesterday, for the second day running, it was the Foreign Secretary
