On Monday the 19th of January, the Foreign Secretary told MPs

that Donald Trump's threat to impose tariffs over Greenland was no way to treat allies.

Donald Trump's threat to tax countries that thwart his proposed takeover of Greenland

has achieved that rarest of things at Westminster, unity.

Politicians on all sides have roundly condemned the idea,

and the Lib Dem leader, Sir Ed Davy, ditched diplomatic language to say so.

Present Trump is acting like an international gangster.

And he wasn't finished there.

Trump has put British businesses and jobs on the front line in his unprovoked aggression.

The only people cheering him on are Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping.

Ed Davy called Donald Trump a bully and reckoned the Prime Minister's softly softly approach

had failed. The only answer, he said, was to stand up to the US president. On the receiving end of

all of that was the Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, who'd come to make a statement on Donald Trump's plan to put a 10% tariff on goods from eight NATO countries if they opposed his Greenland plan.

The use or the threat of tariffs against allies in this way is completely wrong, it is unwarranted and it is counterproductive.

She said Denmark had long been a close ally of the United States.

And alliances endure because they are built on respect and partnership, not pressure.

And tariff threats like this are no way to treat allies.

For the Conservatives, Dame Pretty Patel also called the tariffs completely wrong

and said they'd burdened businesses and put up costs for consumers.
