Can we start with the US election?

I saw your guardian column earlier this week.

And my specific fear about the EU is that they start misinterpreting the whole thing immediately

and that they consider the rejection of Trumpism as a reinforcement of

transatlantic relations, of the old way of transatlantic relation, that they see the defeat

of Trump as a victory of centrist politics and that we can return to the multilateralism

of the Obama years. Is that a, you know, am I too alarmist in this interpretation or do you

share that too? No, I don't think, unfortunately, that you are being alarmist. The greatest

problem with the EU is that because of its architectural design faults, there is a tendency

to adopt the strategy of the least resistance and always to kick the

can down the road, not to confront the difficult issues if they can avoid it.

So I don't think there is any deep thinking going on in Brussels, in Frankfurt, in Paris,

in Berlin regarding the US elections.

The Biden victory has allowed them more space to kick the countdown on the road.
