Episode 16 with Yakini Pierce.
"I don't know if ADHD is connected to being an empath, but I just feel people. I feel their happiness, I feel their pain."
Yakini is a mom with ADHD who has two children, both with ADHD. She has an MBA and degrees in engineering and mass communications, but her strong passion is advocating for parents that have children with ADHD, parents and adults in general that have ADHD through her ADHD Love platform.
It was through advocating on her kids’ behalf that Yakini began to realize that she personally identified with a lot of their ADHD traits — both in her childhood and in adulthood — and ultimately she sought a diagnosis for herself.
Yakini also noticed that some of the online ADHD parenting communities she had joined were rife with stigma and negativity and even shame about their kids diagnoses, so she set out to foster a more positive, warm and empathetic community for parents with ADHD and parents of kids with ADHD.
We also talk about how many of the smartest, most thoughtful and perceptive voices in the front lines of the ADHD community belong to Black women!
