Weekly for The Guardian. Hello, well, we're back after a very busy week. We seem to have

crammed a year's worth of news into the first week of January, Kieran. This time last Monday, we were

talking about Donald Trump's kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro. And so much has

happened then, some of which we'll get into. But we've had lots of emails from you in the last week. So we wanted to quickly read some out. We've had some excellent responses. Lots of them after last week's podcast, which, as you say, Pippa was mainly covering Venezuela. This one's from Robert. Robert says, by Stama's lack of backbone and outright condemnation

of Trump, he just looks weak. Just as Chamberlain's conciliatory tone emboldened Hitler in 1938,

so Stama's appeasement of Trump could yet throw Greenland and Colombia under the proverbial bus.

We are still one of the richest and most powerful nations on earth,

and it should be incumbent on any occupier of number 10 to defend the free world,

not engage in the dilution of freedom itself.
