My buddy, Wright Thompson, is a spectacular writer.

It's weird, you know, in these times of parasocial relationships, um, often I have people come

up to me and talk to me like they're my friend and, uh, and you're like, because they listen

to this podcast, right?

And they feel like they know me.

And honestly, if you've been listening to this podcast for a couple of years, you do know

a big part of, of who I am.

And I'll say I, I call Wright my buddy, even though we've only really had one dinner together

though we've communicated a lot, um, through text and we have friends in common.

But the reason I feel like you're my pal beyond that is that Papyland, the incredible,

well, I guess what started out as a book about Julian, who is the proprietor of Papy Van

Winkle and about the heritage of Kentucky whiskey and the book is those things.

But what it really turns into is a book about your heart, right?

And about, about Julian's heart and about the kind of bonding of, of hearts that can

happen between a whiskey maker and the, uh, ingredient, the mash bait, right?

And also, uh, between a bottle of whiskey and a connoisseur or a drinker of whiskey

between two men who are from similar, but different places, but of different generations

and different modalities of living life and how they can connect.

And about how a reader can connect with a guy writing the book, I, I, I, Amy and I listened

to Papyland together, driving around L.A. about a year and a half ago.

We would drive and, you know, in L.A., you're just driving and driving and driving.
