Ladies, we have a problem. We don't talk about money enough. And why is that a problem? Well,

0:05.5

because guys are talking about money. And that means that guys know better how to negotiate their

0:12.3

salaries, how to get in there, how to ask for more money. When we don't talk about money,

0:17.4

not only do we not clearly communicate with each other that our work matters and has

0:25.3

value, we also are just ill-equipped to make excellent financial decisions because we're not learning

0:33.5

from one another. Today on the show, we are going to be talking about why women need to talk more about money.

a podcast that helps you find fulfillment amidst chaos. On this show, I interview thought leaders,

When it comes to finances, it is women who will take the biggest financial hit from the current coronavirus pandemic. Schools are closed, and even working moms are likely to have to take on additional

1:46.6

responsibilities to care for their children and their children's education as well as caring

1:52.2

for elderly and at-risk family members. This is not great because women at baseline are already

1:59.1

at risk for income inequality. Baseline job offers for women tend to be

2:04.6

up to 7% less than their male counterparts. And women make an average of only 79 cents on the

2:10.7

dollar to men. And that's if you're Caucasian. Black and Latino women face even greater

2:16.3

disparities in income. And the pay gap is only the

2:20.4

beginning of the problem that women face in finance. Women are less likely to receive loans and have

2:27.8

higher rates of student loan debt. Female workers who take maternity leave report being more unable to pay their bills and are more likely to take on additional debt to pay for newborn care.
