Hello, my name is Jesse Meekam with another episode of the Jesse Meekam show, and I'm here each week to obsess out loud about spending purposefully, saving aspirationally, and giving joyfully.

It all comes down to just, well, thinking about your money in an entirely new way.

And that means sometimes thinking about, well, what I've been thinking about.

And that is, why is it that nobody has a savings problem?

And I'm not talking about you weirdos,

you few and far between who just say, Jesse, I just, I can't spend money. It gives me so much

anxiety. And that's actually a problem that we would fix because you can't love spending

if you can't spend without feeling some sense of impending doom. But today I want to talk about the vast majority of people that do not have a spending problem.

They have a savings problem.

And I wanted to dissect why.

Why is it that we naturally have these spending problems and we don't really, like, why don't we accidentally save too much but we why do we

always accidentally spend too much by the way i hate the phrase too much but you all know what i mean

spending that is misaligned with what one really knows one wants needs desires the inner you

speaks and spending follows okay so when you forego spending you don't get the thing right

you cancel your netflix subscription so you don't get to watch stranger things you can't you

you know you don't buy the jeans so you don't have the jeans the alternative is

you have the money and so you have kind of anything um when you spend you get the new shirt

you get to go to a cool concert you get to slip up that milkshake with fresh peaches at this time of

year um and what did you give up?

Well, you don't have that money in the bank, but you have this very concrete thing that

you know that's, this is what I got.

Maybe you won't be able to buy something down the road, but that's, that's all this abstraction.
