Let's begin with a question about the early season schedule for the New York Jets. John, I think this schedule looks pretty favorable. How important is it for the New York Jets to get off to a good start in 2024? I think it's important from the standpoint that I agree that things line up favorably in the early part of the season.

And I'm the guy who always says, you know, you got to be careful with these schedule prognostications because every single year there's a team we expect to be good that ends up being pretty bad.

And there are teams we expect to be bad that surprise us.

2:03.8

I mean, last year, everybody went into the season thinking Houston would be a really easy game for the Jets. And it ended up being like a really tough game because they got them in December, a Houston team that was playing really well. And the Jets beat them, which shows you, you know, you never really know what's going to happen. September, we all thought that we all penciled in as a win. And by the jets were playing used to we penciled in as a loss and the jets ended up winning the game um but that said i mean you can look one thing i think you can look at

2:09.0

our quarterbacks and week one obviously tough game for the jets in san francisco but after that i mean

2:14.9

you know you got tennessee you got new know, you got Tennessee, you got New England,

2:18.5

you got Denver, you got Minnesota. I mean, those are some pretty favorable matchups

2:24.1

when we're talking about the quarterback position. You're going up against guys who are either

2:28.2

really shaky or really young. And we know now J.J. McCarthy is not going to start for Minnesota,

2:33.8

which means we could be going up against our old friend Sam Darnold. But, you know, who are the just going to be facing against Tennessee? You know, non-proven quarterback. New England. Possibly a rookie. Possibly Jacoby Rosset, who's, you know, a solid quarterback, but nobody spectacular. Denver, you know, going up against a rookie. And one thing I'll say is that you want to get rookie quarterbacks early in the season because even the guys who end up being really good, they tend to hit their stride like, you know, November, December. They tend to like figure it out maybe like 10, 11 games in the season. There aren't many rookies who go in and light it up immediately. Even the guys who are really good, you can look, I mean, you can look through the stat lines. I mean, even like guys who end up being really, really good quarterbacks as rookies, even guys who have like rookie of the year caliber seasons, they usually have like one or two absolutely dreadful game in the early part of the season because they're still adjusting to the NFL speed. They're still adjusting to the complexity of defenses. So it's a real opportunity for the Jets to bank and wins in the early part of the season. And that's what I look at is, you know, it's difficult to prognosticate who's going to be good, but it's not hard to prognosticate the quarterbacks you're going up against. And, you know, especially the younger guys, you know, get to the later point of the season, you're going up against a rookie. it may be a different story, but I think that there's a real opportunity for the jets to bank wins now i don't think it's essential so what's the difference between important and essential important means you hey it's something we should be looking at it's something it's something that could matter for the jets i don't think it's necessarily the end of the world though if the jets go off to a slow start that goes back to the age of the team and this is probably going to be you know if it's probably going to be the oldest roster in the league when the 53 man roster cut a cut down day comes next week if it's not it's going to be close to the oldest team in the league but you know even but you know there are pros and cons to that one of the pros is that you have a lot of veterans in the locker room. So you have a lot of guys who aren't going to panic if the team gets off to a slow start. You know, it would be concerning if the Jets don't get off to a good start because of what I mentioned, because of the caliber of the competition. But at the same time, yeah, like I think that that there is a there will be an opportunity for the

4:32.2

jets to come back if they get off to a slow start um so i you know it's one of those it's one of those

4:37.7

things you can't read everything into it you know we shouldn't be declaring the season over if the

4:42.1

jets go off to you know a two and three start in the first five but it would not be a good sign you know it's one of

4:48.3

those things you have to find the happy balance you have to find the happy medium and i think that

4:51.7

i think for the jets the truth probably lies somewhere in between in between those two

4:57.5

next question hi john the browns just traded their kicker york to washington given the
