Today's 10-minute walk is helping you stay consistent with fitness, so let's go for a walk.

I'm wearing a Fitbit right now.

I have no idea how many steps I put on that Fitbit yesterday.

When I began walking as my primary fitness activity, I was all about the step

count, the step goal, setting a particular number and then doing whatever I could to reach

that goal. That was really fuel for fitness for me for many years.

Lately, I don't have a step goal.

Most days I can't tell you how many steps I have at any given point along the day.

And often I can't tell you how many steps I put on my Fitbit the day before.

But every now and then I'll check just to see how many steps am I walking?

Is the trend changing? Am I walking more? Am I walking less?

So it's more out of curiosity than it is out of a particular push to reach a certain number.

Recently, because I was curious, I wanted to determine what was the average number of steps that I've walked

since getting this first Fitbit on January 2nd, 2013.

I'm out pre-sunrise, a little bit earlier than usual, actually.

Got up early and thought, I'm awake,

let's go, let's go for a walk. And so here I am. Because the Fitbit keeps track of every step I take

and every step I've taken since I started wearing a Fitbit, I actually was able to go in, take the annual average for each year since 2013, added all together, divided by the number of years, and that's my average since getting that first Fitbit.

That average is more than 19,000 steps a day.
