0:11.6	and we're going to celebrate Easter Sunday.
0:14.2	On today's episode of Apostolic Life in the 21st century, we're going to tackle a very basic
0:19.9	question, a very important question for Christianity,
0:23.6	and that is, why did Jesus have to die? Dr. Bernard, obviously, Easter Sunday revolves around,
0:33.1	or begins with the death of Jesus on Good Friday, and then, of course, thankfully, his resurrection
0:38.0	on Easter Sunday. I want to really get to the basics of the gospel story here, and that is,
0:44.6	why did Jesus have to die? If you're an outsider, somebody who's not familiar with Christianity,
0:50.2	this probably seems like a very strange story, this Savior, this Messiah, who has to die.
0:57.8	It's maybe they would look at it as being bloody or grotesque.
1:01.7	Wouldn't they have a point?
1:02.7	What is the whole purpose of why did Jesus have to die?
1:06.6	Well, that's the theme of the entire Bible.
1:09.4	And so let's look at the big picture.
1:11.7	Then let me give you some scripture.
1:13.6	So God created humans to have fellowship with him.
1:16.6	He's the source of life.
1:19.2	And when humans sinned, they broke that fellowship.
1:23.6	Because God is holy.
1:24.7	He cannot participate in sin.
1:26.7	Sin is rebellion against God's plan. Sin is rebellion against God's plan.
1:28.9	Sin is contrary to God's nature.
