Well, on Marchth, 2012, the Reason Rally gathered on the National Mall here in Washington, D.C.

And the Reason Rally, if you don't know, was in many ways the culmination of conferences and events all around the country that were all under this banner entitled the new atheism.

And the new atheism as a movement wasn't necessarily presenting new arguments for

atheism it maybe had a new tone one of aggression. It had a new surge of popularity that atheism hadn't had in the decades

prior, and it really did a great job of using and harnessing social media, which was brand new in 2012.

And it was led by men that were called the Four Horsemen of atheism at the time, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchins,

Sam Harris, and Daniel Dennett. I had to read all of their books in seminary.

And their argument in some ways can be summarized by the title of

Christopher Hitchin's book. God is not great, how religion poisons everything.

And part of that is they were arguing not just the traditional

atheist case that there is no God, they were also arguing that and religion is

bad and that's not necessarily new for an atheist to argue that religion is wrong and religion is bad.

But they added something that was new and that is, and its belief should not be respected in public life.

And that was new.

You can hear hints of it in Professor Dawkins' title of his book,

the God Delusion.

That if you believe in God God it's a delusion.
