Today's 10 minute walk is helping you create a fitness habit you will love.

0:09.0

Hi, I'm Dave. I want to tell you about a friend of mine who has been walking two miles every day.

0:17.0

I'm not entirely sure how long he's been doing this, but it's been certainly been months,

0:23.5

and he's committed to doing this. And candidly, it's actually a little bit of a surprise that he's

0:30.5

doing it, but he is, and he doesn't like it. He's mentioned on multiple occasions that walking isn't fun, that it feels at times pointless.

0:48.2

I'm sure the reason behind the walk is for the health benefits. He's investing in his health. And so as he's getting older,

0:59.2

he wants to do things that will help him age well. But he has not found the fun in walking,

1:08.8

does not find the fun in walking and really looks at walking more as a means to an end

1:18.4

than something that is actually enjoyable and so some thoughts on this number one I admire my friend for making the commitment, for doing a hard thing.

1:41.3

I don't feel like it. I don't enjoy this. I don't want to do this. Whereas for me,

1:46.3

it's like I can't wait to do this. And so he's made a commitment and he's doing

1:52.9

something even though he doesn't enjoy it, even though it's challenging. And I quite frankly

2:00.0

really admire that. This is not a highlight

2:03.6

to his day. It's very much a have to, not a get to. And I do think that, I don't know about for him,

2:11.8

because I don't want to say this specifically for him, because I don't know if it will be true or not.

2:16.5

But I do think as a general rule that if we

2:19.3

don't enjoy the fitness activity, if we're not having fun, we're going to be limited in what we can do.

2:28.0

Because I strongly believe that as you are pursuing fitness and it becomes a habit and you find the fun and you get some

2:38.5

momentum that you actually want to do more. It could be more walking or it could be other activities.

2:49.1

It's like I enjoy moving. I enjoy fitness. I want to see what else I can do.

2:54.1

I want to find other activities that are both healthy, that are beneficial, but also can increase
