Once again, out early in the morning, I'm walking facing east.

And if I were able to continue walking straight without any interruptions, I would hit the beach, the Atlantic Ocean, in two miles.

I'm facing the direction of the Atlantic Ocean, but what I actually see is not the ocean, but a grove of pine trees.

There's some barriers between me and the ocean, but I can see the sunrise.

This is the time of year when we make goals, when we make New Year's resolutions,

when we think about how we want the new year to roll, changes we want to make,

things that we would like to see transformed in our life.

If you're like me, if you're like me, there's a list of things that you want to accomplish

and it can all be so very exciting.

But as we've been talking about, if you've been listening the last few days,

goals while exciting and can really provide inspiration, goals also have a problem.

Because goals so often are focused on the end result, where we want to end up.

Some goals can be accomplished quickly, easy goals.

Most goals that really are exciting are going to take a little bit of time.

And along the way, there are going to be zigs, they're going to be zags, they're going to be hills,

are going to be valleys. they're going to be valleys.

Things are going to happen that can be discouraging.
