Maggie went on to spend 13 years at L where she was most recently deputy editor.

First of all, welcome to the show. I'm so excited to talk about your brand new book,

which is called The Kingdom of Prep, the inside story of the rise,

and near fall of Jay Kru and can't wait for us to talk about it today.

So this book started with a story that you wrote for Vanity Fair on Jay Kru that came out in the

summer of 2019. I remember reading that article. I recently re-read it to refresh myself for this

interview. I loved it. I feel like it's really interesting reading it then when it came out and

reading it today, given the current climate and state of Jay Kru and how much it's blossoming again.

But I'm curious if you can walk me through a little bit about the backstory on that article

and how it led you to a book. It was a surprise to everyone involved, Hillary. So I would say that
