Hello, what's going on everyone. Kevin from Epic Gardening here and today we're going to talk about a crop that I think a lot of people have problems with.

I know I've had some problems with them in the past and that would be the humble carrot.

There's tons and tons of different varieties of carrots and typically in America at least you're going

bit earlier than now early September into honestly in my climate I can grow them

pretty much throughout the whole winter.

This episode is going to be focused on different carrot varieties.

How do we actually choose the carrot variety

that we want to grow.

So all edible carrots are actually the same species.

It's Daukis carota subspecies sativis, and it's been cultivated over centuries to reduce what would be the natural bitterness of the wild carrot root.

So originally, most carrots actually weren't the familiar orange hue that we know and love today.

There are white, yellow, red, and even purple carrots and all of those have existed longer

than the orange ones. However, the orange ones are some of the sweetest varieties,

which is why they are the commercially cultivated ones. Let's talk about some of the different types of carrots that are out there.

So the first carrot shape or size and there's five of these.

You've got Danvers.

So Danvers is the most common and that's what most people think of when they envision a carrot in their mind.

It is the most common commercial variety.

Next you have Nantes. That's slightly shorter than Danvers, but the tip also is rounded. It's blunt. It is not very
