Summary

You all told me that you wanted to hear from each of our adult kids who were homeschooled from the beginning and we are now on our FIFTH episode!  I have had so much fun chatting it up with my kids either in person or online.  Sometimes their answers surprise me, but they ARE honest and I love them for that! Today I am talking with Luke who is 20 years old.  He is currently working a job/internship and learning much about business and as you will hear in the podcast, many of the skills he brought into his job were learned during his growing up years...not through books, but through real-life experiences: playing with his siblings for hours on end. Hey everyone. Welcome to this week's podcast. This is Durenda Wilson. I am married to Daryl. We've been married for 30 years, almost. We have eight kids, ages 14 to 28, and we have our sixth grandbaby on the way.

We've been homeschooling for over 23 years, and I have been doing a series where I am sitting down and chatting with each of our adult children who have been homeschooled from the beginning, and they are sharing their experience with homeschooling

0:38.6

and their perspective now as adults. So this has been a really popular series. I think we all just want to

0:45.3

know that our kids are going to be okay, even if we don't do everything perfectly. So I can assure you

0:51.5

I did not do everything perfectly far from it, but the one thing I did try

0:55.3

to do was to listen to what God was telling me to do when it came to our particular kids.

1:00.2

And that's the thing that I'm constantly encouraging moms and families, homeschooling families

1:04.0

to do, because that's the key right there.

1:06.6

Your homeschooling isn't going to look like ours, but we will probably have some shared

1:11.4

experiences. And I think as I talk with our son Luke today, who's joining us, you will find

1:18.3

some commonalities and some reassurances. Luke is 20 years old. He is, has a job that, well,

1:26.5

we're going to describe that job a little bit later, because I don't

1:28.4

even know if I can describe it. But we are just going to sit and chat about his experience. Before

1:35.5

I have him join me, I want to encourage you to check out my simple unhurried, you know, whatever,

1:43.3

my simple, mercifully short book on homeschooling called

1:46.6

The Unhurried Homestooler on Amazon. If you haven't checked that out yet, you know, summertime is a

1:51.2

great time. If you're kind of wanting to tweak some things, or maybe you need a complete revamp,

1:55.6

because this homeschooling thing, the way you're doing it, isn't working for you. I would encourage

1:59.7

you to check this book out because it's not overwhelming and I think it really will help you get kind of just a little more

2:05.8

lined out with what God has for your family, what he's laying on your heart for your family.

2:12.2

So I am really excited to introduce to you Luke. He is our fifth child and our third son. And welcome.

2:22.1

I'm so glad you're here today. Me too.
