Summary

There are a bazillion books and plentiful advice on parenting. Discipline is a very real part of parenting and its ramifications are far-reaching. For homeschooling families, discipline is a more frequent interaction with our kids than the average parent and can often begin to feel like an obstacle. It can quickly wear us down and cause us to become discouraged, but the lack of it can do the very same thing. At the end of the day, for the believing parent, the only opinion on discipline that matters is God's. Today I'll be sharing some of my own experiences and looking at His Word for answers to questions like: is discipline really that big of a deal? Why do I hear people say "character trumps curriculum" when it comes to homeschooling? How do I get direction in how to train my kids? How do I not feel guilty for disciplining? How does discipline relate to me as the parent? 0:00.0	Hey everyone. Welcome to this week's podcast. Today I'm going to be talking about discipline.
0:17.9	Why discipline is so important. I actually really love the word that the Bible
0:23.1	uses frequently in place of discipline in its training. Because I have found that over the last
0:29.3	28 years of parenting, it really is more like training. It's this consistency. It's creating new
0:36.5	habits in our kids, new habits in ourselves. I'm not
0:39.8	talking about more of that in just a few minutes. But first of all, I want to welcome you.
0:45.7	If you are a new listener, you might not know much about me. So very quickly, I am married to
0:51.1	Daryl. We've been married for 30 years. Our kids are ages 14 to 28, and we've been
0:57.1	homeschooling for over 23 years. We have our sixth grandchild due here soon, and we are so excited.
1:05.8	We love our big family. We love the fact that we homeschooled. We wouldn't change a thing about any of it.
1:13.2	But God has taught us a lot along the way. And this is why I do. What I do is to share with you and
1:19.4	encourage you and inspire you to be faithful to following what God is telling you to do with your kids. And discipline is definitely
1:29.8	across the board something all of us need to be practicing in our everyday lives. Before I get
