And one thing we definitely talk about a lot is trauma.

Well, I'm a trauma therapist, but also because I believe that trauma really has become as pervasive as it seems.

Anytime there's new awareness in the community at large of an issue that's related to mental health or mental illness,

it can eventually seem that the word is being overused.

And so trauma definitely is getting into that area where people talk about it a lot.

People use the word sugar very casually.

And I understand the frustration that can come along with that.

But I will take its overuse much more happily than I would take its underuse.

Because there is hardly anybody alive at this point who has not been exposed to a potentially traumatizing event.

A traumatizing event is an event that has enough pain in it to overcome our body's capacity to hold it.
