| 0:00.0 | Today's 10-minute walk is helping both of us remain fitness consistent. |
| 0:07.0 | Hi, I'm Dave. Let's go for a walk. |
| 0:10.0 | Today is 48 years. |
| 0:13.0 | 48 years ago today, walking history was made. |
| 0:18.0 | It was January 20th, 1977. Jimmy Carter was inaugurated president. He replaced Gerald Ford as the president of the United States. |
| 0:33.6 | And the walking history happened after he became president, but before he reached |
| 0:40.1 | the White House for the first time, it was the inaugural parade. And perhaps you even saw |
| 0:45.2 | some pictures of this recently after Jimmy Carter died towards the end of last year, |
| 0:55.6 | Jimmy and his wife, Rosalind, bundled up, walking, waving. |
| 1:02.2 | You can see the limousine in the background. |
| 1:04.1 | Secret service agents are nearby. |
| 1:07.0 | And I think we tend to look at that picture now, and there's nothing about it that is unusual because we're used to the new president getting out and walking at least a little bit during the inaugural parade. |

| 1:47.9 | 1977, 29 degrees, and it was windy. I don't know what the wind chill was, but it certainly was |
| 1:54.6 | colder than 29 degrees. It was a cold day for a walk. |
| 2:05.4 | And Jimmy and Rosalind Carter didn't just get out and walk a couple of blocks. |
| 2:13.5 | They walked pretty much the entire parade route, which was about a mile. |
| 2:16.7 | And it took about 30 minutes. |
| 2:28.1 | By the way, quick side note, Pennsylvania Avenue, which is where that inaugural parade takes place, where Jimmy and Rosalind Carter walked on that January 20th, 1977. |
| 2:31.5 | I've been in D.C. so many times. |
