Grab your scriptures, and let's dive into Exodus 15 versus 24 through 25.

The Isolites were on the longest family road trip of all time.

Over 40 years with the same people doing the

same thing, seeing the same desert view every day. It sounds pretty miserable, especially considering

water in the scorching hot desert would be scarce. With all this in mind, it's easier to have some

compassion for the Israelites, especially when

they reached what they thought would be a source of fresh water that turned out to be bitter.

Quote, and the people murmured against Moses saying, what shall we drink?

This statement is instructive, because what did the people do when things got bad?

They murmured. They turned to their leader and grumbled at him.

But let's read Moses's response to this trial. Quote, and Moses cried unto the Lord, and the Lord

shoot him a tree, which when he had cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. Isn't that

interesting? When a complex problem came their way, the Israelites' first

response was to murmur while Moses's first response was to pray. What about you? When things

go wrong, what's your first response? We could all probably work on being more Moses-like

in looking to God for help instead of shaking our fists at him in frustration.

So the takeaway of the day in five words or less is, when trouble comes, pray.
