Smith and Callie Black. Hello and welcome to Big Picture Monday. My name is Callie Black,

here with all the context you need to totally rock this week's Come Follow Me readings. This week is

April 20th through the 26th, and we are studying Exodus chapters 19 and 20, 24, and 31 through 34.

Welcome to the base of Mount Sinai.

As we talked about last week, the Israelites have been freed from the Egyptians.

They've started their journey in the wilderness. And now we're going to

see them as they stop at the base of this giant mountain called Mount Sinai, also called Mount

Horib, but we'll refer to it as Mount Sinai here. This week, really, our main focus is going to be

on the Ten Commandments that Moses receives

from the Lord at the top of Mount Sinai and also a lot of other experiences that Moses has,

as he is in the presence of God at the top of the mountain.

We'll also learn about the what Israelites we're doing at the base of the mountain, including

panicking and making a golden calf to

worship. Love it. Great. Timeline-wise, I hope that we can get really clear on this, because sometimes

our brains might go to, and then the Israelites wandered for 40 years, right? So this is all spread

throughout the 40 years. I want to be clear that most of the

story that we get is right here at the very beginning. We know that they will be wandering, quote,

unquote, for 40 years before they reach their promised land of Canaan. But also, we know that it would take people about 11 days, 11 days to walk,

to walk from Egypt to Canaan. And so these Israelites are being led where the Lord is taking

them, and they are going to be here at the base of Mount Sinai for about one year.

So this is kind of like a big stopping point, right?
