Hello and welcome to Radio Head Space. It's Dora, it's Monday and I hope you had a beautiful weekend.

So I've been toying with the idea of leaving social media and when I say

social media I really just mean Instagram which when set out loud in this day and age

raises a lot of eyebrows and questions.

When I shared this idea with a few friends of mine, they were shocked.

Well, what will you do for money?

How will you build community?

Increase engagement? How will people know you exist?

Natural questions that I have been reflecting on for a few months now.

So for this week, I wanted to take you all on a journey with me as we

explore our relationship to social media. Now I'm not here to condemn those who love

Instagram or Tik-talk or persuade you to leave the digital world.

However, I do think awareness is power, and with social media being such a huge part of our lives

I think it's important to create an awareness of our relationship to it.

Like what role does it play in our lives? What do we want out of it?

And what are we contributing?

I actually haven't been on social media for too long. In fact, my first post was made at the end of 2017.

Years before that, I was contently disconnected. But as I began to do more community work and hosting gatherings in Vancouver,

my friends urged me to get back online so I could promote the events. After all, how are people

going to find out about them? So this was a silver lining and my North Star for being

online. As long as I was in service to my community and

contributing in an impactful way, I told myself I would rejoin the digital space.
