So let's say you have to hire somebody for a pretty big job, a job that's related to

something pretty significant like health care, right? And not just the health care for you or your

community, not just the health care for your state, but like the health care for your entire nation,

okay? Your entire nation of a couple hundred million people, just hypothetically. What might be some of the characteristics that you would look for when you put together that job description?

And let's think about this critically.

You need someone who's got some policy background when it pertains to health care.

You need somebody who understands what good policy looks like, who understands what

bad policy can lead to. You would want somebody who was grounded in, well, health care science, right?

You would want somebody who is crystal clear about the fact that science isn't a declaration of

the truth, but it is a process of finding out more and more truths. And you would

understand or you would hopefully want someone in that position who understood that we never

reach a point where we stop learning things. And the more we learn things, those new pieces of

information should inform the older pieces of information around which we already held some

opinions. You would want somebody who actually

had that medical background, which is going to be intimately tied to their capacity to be

successful in a health care position. You would want someone who perhaps had worked in a hospital

before, someone who had actually examined patients before, or who was familiar with the research

that would inform the people who were

actually examining those patients. You would want someone from the medical field who most people

in the medical field generally agreed was actually qualified to serve in the leadership of a massive

health care organization like the Center for Disease Control or Health and Human Services. These are
