Well, today we're tackling a very difficult topic of porn addiction and what that does to a marriage.

We know, sadly, that that could be part of your story or certainly someone you know.

I'm John Fuller with Greg Smalley and his wife, Aaron, and they lead the focused marriage team.

And, boy, Aaron, sometimes guys think marriage and sex is going to cure them of their porn

problem, but that doesn't happen. Why?

Yeah, that does not happen.

And if the expectation is, gosh, when I get married, I'm not going to look at porn anymore

or have lust issues. And of course,

there can be such a spectrum of looking at porn versus a full-blown addiction. And it will not work

to look at your spouse and put that on them that it's your job to fix this problem that I have.

Often the problem started or the addiction started

back when they were like 10 years old.

It has impacts on the brain and it's very addictive.

So therefore, how in the world is your spouse

going to be the cure for that?

They are not, they were not created to be the cure for that.

They absolutely can be a support and an assistant in walking that

with you, but it is not theirs to fix. It's God's to fix and it's yours to fix. So it really is

recognizing this is something that's been around a whole lot longer than my spouse. And I'll say

that the church often really put that pressure, especially on women. And that is not

the truth. Recognizing whoever is having the addiction issue, they've got to get in and get some

serious help and commit to sobriety. That is theirs. And with God's help and great support and accountability, there's so much hope.
