28 years ago, Wheaton College fired her ex-husband after three students accused him of essaying them.

But Kathy Gallagher's ex-husband, Dennis Massaro, who directed the office of Christian outreach,

wouldn't give her details of why he'd been dismissed.

He said only that while he was sleepwalking, he had inappropriately touched two students.

And I'm just, I can't remember just walking, just trying to breathe, and I'm like, are our girls safe?

Kathy implored leaders at the flagship evangelical school to tell her what had happened.

But the administrators, some of whom she had considered her closest friends, wouldn't even return her calls.

I started calling Sam's house, just wanting to talk to him and I kept calling his house.

No answer, no answer.

For the next few years, Kathy did everything she could to get Wheaton to tell her and the courts

the truth, and Wheaton did everything it could to bury it. Meanwhile, the welfare of her kids

hung in the balance. So she went back to her stomach and held her back. And I tried to get to my room before just to deal with my emotion at that point.

And I started stopping because that's what I was protecting them from. But the damage extended beyond Kathy's kids, as Wheaton kept Dennis Massaro's predatory ways a secret for decades.

In 2015, both Kathy and her husband Doug reached out to current Wheaton College President Phil Reichen,

urging him to be the hero and undo this evil thing

his predecessor had done.

He seemed open and humbled and like he was hearing it

for the first time.

And he said, I need to talk to some people.

And he had talked to the lawyer and he said these things never

happened. But they did happen. And tragically, history repeated itself in the years following

as Masaro went to Turkey as a pastor and reportedly essayed and abused Iranian refugees there.
