Summary

“We must not give to others what we have received for ourselves; nor must we keep for ourselves that which we have received to spend on others. You fall into the latter error, if you possess the gift of eloquence or wisdom, and yet—through fear or sloth or false humility—neglect to use the gift for others’ benefit. And on the other hand, you dissipate and lose what is your own, if without right intention and from some wrong motive, you hasten to outpour yourself on others when your own soul is only half-filled.” words from Bernard of Clairvaux.

Hi, my name is Pete Gazzara. I want to welcome you today to the emotionally healthy leader

0:07.6

podcast where our mission is to transform church culture through the multiplication of deeply changed leaders and disciples.

0:15.1

And the key word there is multiplied. My commitment, our commitment is mission, the glory of Jesus being extended on all the

0:23.5

earth and to make disciples who make disciples, folks mature enough as men and women of the faith

0:28.1

are able to multiply themselves from generation to generation. This is one of my favorite passage

0:33.5

of scripture. You're going to hear a message today on what will you do with the treasure of your life? What will you do with the treasure of your life from the parable of the talents?

0:42.4

And love this passage. One of my great passions in life is that people would know Jesus.

0:48.3

And that's interesting. That's why I became a pastor of a local church and why all these

0:51.8

decades I've been doing what I'm doing because I am passionate that folks would discover who God's uniquely made them to be

0:57.9

and fulfill their calling.

0:59.4

And Matthew 25 is this amazing passage where Jesus is talking to believers, his servants,

1:04.0

and he talks about entrusting talents to people.

1:08.5

And it's just incredible.

1:09.8

This talent is the greatest unit of accounting in

1:13.4

the Greek accounting of money. So talent, I think it was $10 million. Two talents was equivalent

1:19.7

to probably $20 million today. Five talents was $50 million. And this pointed that God's given

1:25.8

enormous gifts and abilities and talents to every human being

1:32.0

that he's called to himself.

1:33.4

And it's a treasure that's been entrusted for a short period of time.

1:37.6

But so many of us, so many of our people shrink back from actually stepping over their fears and all the culture's messages

1:46.3

of not having much to offer and family messages and so many shrink back and bury their treasure

1:54.8

in our churches.
