What is up everyone? Welcome back to the podcast. Today we're back with Dan from Crop swap and we're getting a little esoteric. We're talking about soil as a metaphor for life. Now if you're a long time gardener like I am, you probably have gardening

metaphors kind of bleed into your normal life. I know I certainly do. I think a lot

about the integrated pest management stuff and sort of how if you prevent or create situations in which

pests can be taken care of by the natural environment I think a lot about how that might

translate to maybe how I run my own life. You know if I do my budget correctly then I

don't have to worry about any sort of pest type things in the future when it

comes to my finances. So I do think about a lot about these metaphors. Dan and I think we have a

pretty fun lively conversation about soil as a metaphor for life, so let's get into it.

So, soil as a metaphor for life. I think there's a lot of metaphors that gardening can

impart on life just because I mean it's very fundamental part of the ecosystem

if you think about it that way and so I kind of want to hear your take on how

soil is a metaphor for life.

Well, one of the things that I talk about a lot in my garden talks

is usually when people are gardening and you were to ask them,

like, okay, look out at that patch of

garden you know what right there is living and they'll be like oh that that that grass is

growing or that kale is growing and it's like yes but you know you know one teaspoon of garden soil there's billions of

bacteria there's fungi there's nematodes there's protozoa you know there's

microherds as they say like most of that life is actually in the soil. A dude that you know from

Instagram, this guy Tony grows food, great dude. And he said the coolest thing to me. He's like,

I'm not a plant farmer I'm a soil farmer and I

and I really like that philosophy you know if we cultivate a healthy soil you
