Summary

Philip Yancey is an award-winning author, renowned theologian, and influential speaker who has written 13 Gold Medallion award-winning books and won two ECPA Book of the Year awards for What’s So Amazing About Grace? And The Jesus I Never Knew.

Today, I had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the bestselling book, What’s So Amazing About Grace? with author Philip Yancey. The question is just as relevant now as it was when the book was first published. It still holds true that the most important things in life are love, forgiveness and grace. Regardless of your religious or spiritual beliefs, Philip invites us to question how we understand grace and how we extend it to ourselves and others.

And at the time, I can't remember if you were very busy, but as I recall, you said something

0:40.0

to me to the effect of, you know, Ian, I'm not really into those personality things.

0:46.7

And I'm just curious, why was that not the actual endorsement?

0:53.3

But what is the lack of enthusiasm about understanding personality?

0:59.2

What was behind that?

1:00.2

I might answer that differently now.

1:02.2

I wrote a memoir in the meantime, a book called Where the Light fell About My Story.

And I guess back then, as a journalist, I was trying to avoid getting to know people

through some sort of compartment that they fit into.

1:17.2

I wanted to just kind of render who they were rather than do that kind of psychological

analysis.

1:23.3

And I spent several years navel gazing, looking at myself to write this story.

1:29.1

I probably could have, could have used some of the insights gained from things like the

Enneagram.

So I'm open.
