And today we have just a really remarkable guest here on the show.

It's my friend, author, Philip Yancy.

Philip, welcome to typology.

Thank you very much Ian.

So Philip, years ago, back when I wrote the road back to you, I asked you for an endorsement.

And at the time, I can't remember if you were very busy, but as I recall, you said something

to me to the effect of, you know, Ian, I'm not really into those personality things.

And I'm just curious, why was that not the actual endorsement?

But what is the lack of enthusiasm about understanding personality?

What was behind that?

I might answer that differently now.

I wrote a memoir in the meantime, a book called Where the Light fell About My Story.

And I guess back then, as a journalist, I was trying to avoid getting to know people

through some sort of compartment that they fit into.

I wanted to just kind of render who they were rather than do that kind of psychological

analysis.

And I spent several years navel gazing, looking at myself to write this story.

I probably could have, could have used some of the insights gained from things like the

Enneagram.

So I'm open.
