I'm teaching a Satie Center class over these last weeks and that's brought this one particular teaching into my mind a lot in these last weeks.

That is of the teachings to Beheia.

And while I'm not going to give a teaching on that right now,

I'm going to go through that teaching, I want to kind of give a perspective on that

teaching because there's one part of that story that has really kind of captured my interest.

So the story is there's somebody, but he is practicing and he's

practicing on his own. He doesn't know anything about the Buddhist teachings, but he's you know he's apparently got quite a bit of respect in the community you know he's a he's a renunciate he meditates a lot and probably does a lot of concentration practice is my guess.

And he's, you know, very much a renunciate. They call him Bahia of the bark cloth

because he wears bark.

That's what he goes around wearing.

And so he wondered whether he was awakened.

And one of his, apparently the story is that one of his relatives had taken

rebirth in the form of a Deva, a heavenly being and that this relative kind of knew that Bahia was contemplating

whether he was awakened and he went down and gave Bahia some advice and said, you know, you're not, you're not awakened and you're not even practicing in a way that can awaken you.

But I can help you, I can tell you somebody who is practicing in a way and that can give you instructions and so he told him about the Buddha and he went to the Buddha.

And the Buddha gave him a teaching very brief, succinct, many of you are familiar with it.

It's basically, you know, notice what's happening in the present moment while it's happening

as a happening. Train in the scene is only the scene, in the

herd is only the herd, in the sense to only the sense, and the cognized is only

the cognized. And then he gave him a little bit more around when that's the case for you, there won't be a sense of self there will be no you in terms of that. There will be no you there, there will be freedom. And so the teaching is so simple, it's just a simple teaching and it is said that Bahia became awakened on the spot from that teaching.
