Summary

Join of at the Dad Tired Annual Retreat

In this episode, Jerrad reflects on Jesus’ words in Matthew 5 and what it really means to take sin seriously.

After nearly two years off social media, he shares how removing constant digital input transformed his mind, reduced temptation, and brought a level of peace he didn’t know he was missing.

This isn’t about rules.
It’s about freedom.

If something in your life is pulling you away from who God is calling you to be, maybe the answer isn’t managing it better…

Maybe it’s removing it altogether.

Hey guys, welcome back to the dad tired devotional series. We do these on Thursdays. They're kind of shorter, more casual episodes. We do long form interviews with people on Mondays and then we just do these like devotional style episodes on Thursdays. Before we jump in, I have some thoughts, but before we jump in, we do have our retreat coming up at the end of August and spots will fill up for that. I really want you to be there.

1:20.2

has been a year and a half almost to the day since I got off of social media and since I got

1:26.9

off of having any news apps on my phone,

1:29.6

which is just kind of crazy. I was thinking about this. I got the very first iPhone that ever came

1:34.8

out within like a week of it coming out. And I've had, I think, every iPhone since then,

1:41.1

which is honestly a little bit depressing and sad.

1:45.9

And really, there's not much of a difference between any of them.

1:48.5

I guess from between now and the very first ones, there's probably a huge difference.

1:51.6

1:54.9

But there's not very much difference.

1:56.4

Anyway, that's a side tangent.

1:57.8

The point being, I think for many years, if not most of my adult life,

2:01.8

I've probably, if I'm honest with myself, been addicted to technology. I've really enjoyed social media

2:07.3

and phones and blah, blah, blah. And so I didn't realize how much of my world kind of revolved
