information all right today we are addressing a simple question, but it can sound complex.

What is pH and why is it important?

So when we hear pH, sometimes you think about your high school chemistry class, you start to freak

out a little bit, and your head starts to hurt, but it really

doesn't have to be that complex. In fact, it can be as easy to understand as the temperature

on a thermometer. Okay, so let's get into it. First of all, what is pH?

pH is a measure of the hydrogen ion concentration in a given substance on a scale from

0 to 14.

7 is considered pH neutral.

Anything below 7 is acidic and anything above 7 is alkaline.

So in gardening terms, the pH of our soil is

telling us basically how sour or sweet the soil is. You can measure pH in a few

different ways. First of all, you can use an electric bridge,

but a lot of people don't really use a tool like this

just because it's too expensive.

And so what most people do is they just buy a soil test kit.
