Summary

Have you ever been told to reconnect with who you were, but really have no clue who that is? Some people started their life in a toxic or dysfunctional environment and have no healthy self to reconnect with. What do you do then? There are steps to defining or redefining yourself. I talk about them in this episode.

0:28.9	Some of them have to do with being in toxic relationships, a lot of them actually.
0:34.0	Some of them are about being around family that's very difficult.
0:40.0	A lot of toxic emails I get, not from them, but they're in toxic situations and they want
0:46.2	to know how to get out of them or how to deal with them.
0:50.0	But there's a common theme in some messages that I get that has to do with wanting to find
0:58.9	the old me or figure out who I am.

1:05.0	In fact, one person in the Facebook group,

1:09.4	over in Facebook, asked the question about, how do I find out who I was if I was born into a toxic
1:18.9	relationship or toxic family situation. I can relate. I can relate. I was born into an alcoholic
1:28.3	household ever since I was one my mom got married or my mom got together with my stepfather who was an alcoholic
1:36.6	and he got worse and worse over the years.
1:39.7	And so my upbringing was a toxic dysfunctional family.
1:45.8	And when you're in a toxic dysfunctional family, you learn some unhealthy coping mechanisms.
1:53.0	Not everyone, but a lot of people learn unhealthy coping mechanisms,
1:57.0	and that's what turns into disfunctions in your later relationships.
2:03.0	And so I share that because the person in the Facebook group said,
2:08.0	I don't know who I was before that because I wasn't anyone. This is who I've always been. Now I believe
