Today we have a passage that is quite confusing.

To be honest, there are a lot of things in here that we think we can understand and

know what they mean and other parts that just leave us wondering if we've got it entirely right.

And the passage I'm speaking of is in 1st Peter, Chapter 3, particularly

verses 19 and 20, but we're going to read a little bit of context to figure out exactly what it is that

we're dealing with as we get into this.

Now in this section, Peter has been telling us that we as believers in Christ are to live in such a way that our

behavior demonstrates Jesus to the world around us. And he's saying sometimes that's

going to happen through suffering.

You see the way we respond to suffering will show Jesus because he suffered as well and

that's the point Peter makes in verse 18 that Jesus suffered once

for sin and he did so as a righteous man the righteous holy son of God and he did so

in a self-sacrificial way, suffering in our place so that he could bring us to God.

See that's the greater context and we have to have that in mind as we continue on.

It says he was put to death in the flesh,

so he was killed, but made alive in the spirit.

And then verse 19 is where it starts
