0:16.8	Have you ever heard of the Word of Faith Movement? You may have also heard it referred to as the Name It and Claimate Gospel or the Prosperity Gospel.
0:22.3	It's a movement that started back after World War II when
0:24.8	televangelis started to take the nation by storm and some in particular began
0:30.0	preaching a gospel that equated financial and physical blessing with God's favor.
0:35.5	The root of the prosperity gospel comes down to having enough faith means that God
0:40.3	will bless you and this gospel is almost always me centered. The preachers of this
0:45.6	gospel focus a lot on what you can get out of God and how he wants you to succeed
0:51.2	financially in life. Now in 2017 Lifeway research pulled
0:56.4	church-going Americans on some of their beliefs on God and prosperity and I was
1:00.9	honestly shocked by the results. I mostly think that the prosperity gospel is out
1:06.4	there at specific churches that were pretty obvious about it. So I was shocked when I read that
1:12.1	38% agreed that their church taught them that God will bless
1:16.7	them if they give more money to their church and charities.
1:20.7	69% agreed that God wants them to prosper financially.
1:25.0	It turns out the way of thinking planted in America by the Word of Faith Movement
1:31.0	has seeped into our own beliefs about what God wants for us.
1:36.5	So are they right?
1:38.2	Does God want us to prosper financially?
1:41.5	Will we be blessed with a good life by God if we give to the church?
1:45.0	Well, what we need to know is that most of the logic of this line of thinking comes from cherry-picking sections of scripture out of context and
