One of the things I often talk about with my audience is that there is a difference

0:54.6

between things that we can know and things that we cannot know. And oftentimes in our society,

1:01.1

we will find that people will put things in the we don't know category, but these are things

1:05.9

that we actually can learn. We can actually know. We can actually experience. We have data to

1:09.7

support the answer to those questions.

1:53.6

know how to determine whether or not a city or a municipality has been effective at reducing violence.

1:59.0

But unfortunately, we live in a world where people in power

2:01.6

pretend to not know things because not knowing things serves their desire to be as racist, as sexist,

2:09.2

and as dictatorial as they want to be. And I do know when a leader, quote unquote, is pretending to have

2:16.5

solutions about reducing crime. I know that when

2:19.5

those solutions don't actually work and when we've seen those solutions tried before, like
