MPs are back for a new parliamentary term,

many of them wondering why a case against alleged Chinese spies collapsed in the courts, and I've spoken to the boss

of a new Ethics and Integrity Commission tasked with restoring standards in public life.

That is all coming up, but first, let's meet my guests. Fur Anderson is the Labour MP for Putney in South West London.

After a 25-year career in international development, Fleur was first elected back in 2019

and became a minister at the Northern Ireland office following last year's general election.

But politics is a rough old business and Fleur, you're nodding along,

return to the back benches after the Prime Minister's recent reshuffle.

How's that adjustment been?

It was disappointing when it happened, but there's plenty of else to do.

So yeah, it is a readjustment, yes.

So Bernard Jenkins is the Conservative MP for Harwich and North Essex.

He was first elected to Parliament in 1992.

Bernard served on several prominent parliamentary committees

and chaired the powerful liaison committee until last year,

which is, of course, where the Prime Minister of the day is put through their paces.

Would you reassure Fleur, Bernard, that there is a good and fulfilling career

to be had on the backbench? Well, yes, I would, but don't be surprised how long it takes
