we're coming to you from Manchester, where the Conservative Party is holding its conference,

lagging far behind reform in the polls.

Can Kemi Bey do not galvanise her troops and convince them

they are in with a fighting chance at the next general election? I've been testing the mood among

party members. We'll talk about policy announcements on leaving the European Human Rights Framework

and plans to deport hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants, will also ask if the Tories can ever

reclaim the mantle of economic competence and whether that could be a path back to power.

But first, let's meet my panel.

Squeezed around the table here in our studio at the conference centre in Manchester,

Chris Philp is the shadow home secretary and MP for Croydon South. He held various

roles in the governments of the three most recent Conservative Prime Ministers, including

Chief Secretary to the Treasury under Liz Truss. Before getting into Parliament, he was an entrepreneur.

You entered Parliament in 2015, I think Chris, and you're now loyally supporting your sixth Tory leader, I think.

That takes a certain political entrepreneurship too, I guess.

Well, you know, I think loyalty, they say, is the Conservative Party's secret weapon.

And actually, there's a serious point.

We are now united.

We are united.

And that is a good thing.

And I think we're done with the experiment in revolving through leaders rapidly.
