What's going on everyone? Welcome back to the Epic Gardening Podcast. Today we are doing a fun and

funky episode about weird plants and specifically weird fruits and vegetables.

So when I say weird, I just mean that a lot of people don't really know how their produce

grows.

Now lettuce, obviously we know how lettuce grows, right? But what about something

like Brussels sprouts? Well, unless you're a gardener, and unless you've grown them before,

you may have no idea how those little Brussels get to your table.

So what I'm going to do in today's episode is run through as many interesting plants that we eat, that we may or may not have any idea how they grow. So let's get

started. First we've got brussel sprouts. Now brussel sprouts, we know are little tiny green balls that oftentimes will cut in half, throw some

olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper on, throw them in the oven, and we have a delicious treat.

Well, how do they grow?

They actually are little nubs that grow on these odd long stocks.

They kind of look like a stick with bells on it. It's one of those musical instruments that people will

play during Christmas songs. So they kind of look like that. So if you haven't

seen how Brussels sprouts grow and that is not

ringing a bell that's not giving you a good visual image, then go ahead and Google it because

it's pretty unique. Second one we'll cover. How about pineapples? Don't they just grow on trees and drop down?

No, they don't. They are a bromeliad. They grow out of a weird, freakishly small and short plant on the ground, straight out of the middle, and they're on a small

stem which is actually connected to the bottom of the pineapple and not the top. Very odd, very interesting and when you see a

a field of pineapple it looks like sort of an alien landscape. So it's a very unique thing to witness and something that I would

highly recommend you check out if you have the opportunity.

What about nuts? Don't all nuts just grow on trees? Well, cashew sure do grow on trees, but they actually grow at the end of something called a cashew apple, which is also edible, something that you may not have known.
