0:14.2	So much controversy these days and conversation in the media has to do with whether or not
0:19.2	Congress and the President will agree to raise the national debt limit.
0:23.9	This comes up, currently, in American politics, and it is always a divisive issue.
0:28.6	It's also confusing to the American people.
0:31.0	So let's just try to peel back the layers of the onion for a moment and understand what
0:34.7	we're talking about.
0:36.2	First of all, we're talking about the fact that the national government has a huge debt.
0:40.2	Now how large might that debt be?
0:42.6	Most people would say it's in the billions of dollars.
0:44.9	Actually, that's quite an understatement.
0:46.5	The current national debt is somewhere around $31 trillion.
0:51.5	That's $31 trillion just divided by the number of men, women, and children in the United States.
0:57.2	It's $94,174 for every single American.
1:02.2	$94,174.
1:03.2	Now you can pretty much do the math and understand that that debt is not going to be paid on these
1:08.6	terms.
1:09.6	That is impractical.
1:10.9	The nation has been spending money.
1:12.6	It doesn't have.
