Let's get you caught up with today's seven stories. Number one, the Supreme Court ruled in a major case

related to elections. In their decision yesterday, justices rejected a theory that state legislatures have almost

unlimited power to decide the rules for federal elections. The stakes for this case were high. If the ruling had gone the other way,

it would have radically changed our election system.

State lawmakers would have had the ability to draw congressional maps

without interference from state courts.

That's even if those maps blatantly favored one party over another

or violated voter protections.

This and other election decisions have taken some people by surprise.

The court has a conservative majority, but it's largely decided to uphold the status quo on election cases this year.

Also yesterday, justices ruled in a case that raises the bar for prosecuting

someone under the First Amendment for making threats. Number two.

Russia is still reeling from the aftermath of the weekend rebellion.

Yevgeny Progosian, the boss of the Wagner mercenary group, orchestrated a short-lived
