you know that I do not think our elected officials are necessarily great role models.

But the House of Representatives did do something this week that I think we should all follow.

And I won't mention this in the Corps for today, so I wanted to tell you now that no one

won the Powerball on Monday night, which means the jackpot is over $1 billion.

know drugs are legal in o. That was the headline,

at least, that was everywhere when Oregon voters chose to decriminalize using or being caught

with small amounts of illegal drugs back in 2020. The vote passed with 58% of voters supporting it.

But what does that mean in the real world to decriminalize drugs?

It means that instead of being sent to jail for doing illegal drugs like cocaine or heroin,

users were issued fines.

And those fines could be forgiven if they went through these addiction hotline screenings.

The idea behind decriminalizing

small amounts of drugs comes from research that shows overdoses for drug users actually go up

when those people are sent to prison. Sometimes they overdose in prison, sometimes when they get out.

But that plan didn't work when it was actually implemented in Oregon. Instead,

reported overdose deaths in the state went up from 84 in 2019 to a little over 1,000 overdose deaths
