Hello from Washington. I'm Chuck Todd and this is the Chuck Todd cast today. We've only

got good news for 220 candidates. NBC News Wall Street Journal poll has the first big

poll after the third debate and it shows a couple of things. One, it shows that Joe Biden

still holding strong. He actually picked up support from her July survey. Elizabeth Warren,

she's also got voters fired up and if anything, she grew even faster than Joe Biden. Plus,

President Trump says he has an Iran strategy. But the bigger question is, what will the public

believe? And later in the show, I'll be joined by journalists and author, Gerr graph, who

will discuss his new book, The Only Plane in the Sky, an oral history on 9-11. And we'll

discuss how the country has changed since then, including many things about the press

and the presidency. But first, I'm talking with Republican strategist Michael Steele and

NBC contributor Ruth Marcus of the Washington Post. Welcome to you both. All right, we get to

talk some raw politics a little bit. We had the big NBC News Wall Street Journal poll out

and it's like we like to say there are a lot of good polls out there, but we think ours is

better than most. And the big thing that our pollsters did is we took our combined first

and second choice. The big numbers were this and let's start first with, and I'll start

with you, Ruth. I'm guessing you weren't surprised that Biden was still ahead. Were you surprised

that both Biden and Warren grew in our poll? I don't think I was surprised by that because

I think they both had the room to grow and in some ways the incentives from their constituencies

to grow. Right? Biden is plugging away and he had a terrible first debate, but he, but

that didn't seem to hurt him in the polls. And so he keeps going steady and a track and none

of the voters who are attracted to Biden seem to be conglomerate with anybody else. Yeah,

there's no flirtation going on. They're dating one guy and so they're going steady. They're
