Unfictional is a program of stories and original documentaries from the Independent

Producer Project, and in Vietnam it's understood that as long as someone dies naturally near home

It is buried with the proper ceremony and offerings they can provide aid and guidance to their living descendants.

But if they died a violent unnatural death away from home without proper ritual,

the dead are condemned to limbo, angry and resentful, moving among the living and

visiting them in their dreams.

Well of course the war in Vietnam created millions of angry wandering ghosts,

but one American Vietnam veteran

has come back to help his former enemies find a mass grave

so the ghosts of the people buried there

can finally find peace and stop their tormented

wandering.

Spent two years in the army at an honorable discharge and a purple heart.

I came home very angry, very, very, very angry.

I was drinking an awful lot of alcohol doing an awful lot of drugs trying

to just you know blob a lot of things out. I don't believe in closure. I think closure is denial. I've got closure so it's all in the past didn't happen well it's not in the past the

past is with you always.

Vietnam isn't somewhere most American veterans ever want to see again.

But a few do make the trip.
