I hope it's not apocryphal. Do you know what the problem is? We're saying on the radio some of the things you've enjoyed most regurgitating and reflecting upon over the years.

The problem is, when you say it on the radio, it turns out not to have happened at all.

Worst example is probably the John Maynard Keynes quote that I used almost daily for the best part of half a decade before finding out that there's no actual evidence he ever said.

but apparently not one that John Maynard Keynes was ever recorded as having said.

But Dorothy Parker, if this isn't true, I don't care.

I shall believe it till the rest of my days.

He used to answer the telephone by saying,

It seems a fairly neat prediction of what Brexit would do to us all.
