I want to talk about Virginia, Virginia Seteer, or as those around her knew her as

Ginny, Ginny Satir.

I'll never forget the first time I saw one of Satir's videos.

It was when I was in grad school in 1995. And at first, it's just unforgettable seeing her

videos. At first, I remember just being completely shocked. Oh, by the way, if you don't know who Saterer is,

she is one of the most famous family therapists of all time.

And if you're in my field, you absolutely know about her.

And if you aren't, then I'm guessing you don't.

But I think she's a fascinating character, probably the most fascinating

therapist to have lived during her time. And even if you're not a therapist, I'm guessing

this will be interesting on some level. But anyway, so in graduate school, to become a therapist,

I remember watching one of Seteer's videos.

And at first, I remember just being shocked by it.

The way she is as a therapist is very different than anything I'd ever seen before.

She touches people.

She moves them around.

She gets in their face in this super nice nurturing way.

She's not yelling at people, but she's just like in this very intense way, just getting right up in people's business and just talking at them and getting them to say things that they would

never say normally. And so at first I was just shocked. I was like, what am I looking at?

This is like crazy town. And then over time, watching that first video, I slowly completely fell in

love with her.
